Coastguard Race to Rescue Injured Beachgoer at Selsey
Selsey Coastguard Team sprang into action at 1.26pm on July 17, 2024, after reports of a casualty with a badly injured leg at Seal Bay, Selsey.
Lifeboat Called In as Ambulance Delayed
On arrival, the coastguards found the casualty in severe pain. With the ambulance running late, they urgently called in the Selsey Inshore Lifeboat for help. The lifeboat crew joined forces with the coastguard team to provide immediate pain relief and first aid.
Paramedics Take Over, Casualty Hospitalised
When paramedics finally turned up, they administered further pain relief. The injured beachgoer was carefully stretchered up the beach and handed over to the waiting ambulance. The casualty was then rushed to hospital for ongoing treatment.
Coastguard Warns: Stay Off Slippery Rocks
The Selsey Coastguard Team issued a sharp warning to beach visitors:
- “Don’t climb the rock armour!”
- The rocks are extremely slippery with deep, dangerous gaps.
- Hidden underwater rocks pose serious injury risks.
The team wrapped up their operation at 3.45pm, reminding all to stay safe and follow coastal safety signs.
In an emergency at sea, beach, or coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.
