A1 Motorway Shut Both Ways After Serious Crash

The A1 motorway is shut in both directions between Ripon (J50) and Catterick (J52) following a major collision. Police are leading investigations, forcing closures on:

  • Southbound: Between J52 (Catterick, Richmond) and J51 (Northallerton, Leeming Bar, Bedale)
  • Northbound: Between J50 (Ripon) and J51

Southbound Drivers Told to Take Longer Route

Motorists heading south must leave the A1M at junction 52. Follow the solid square signs to the A6055 towards Catterick Village and Marne Barracks. After roughly 6 miles, continue through the Lemming Interchange, take the second exit at the next roundabout, then rejoin the A1M southbound at junction 51.

Northbound Traffic Diverted Via A6055

Those travelling north should follow hollow triangle signs. Exit the A1M at junction 50, take the second exit at the roundabout onto the A6055, and stay on this route until rejoining the motorway at junction 51.

Drivers are urged to follow diversion signs carefully to avoid delays.
