Blaze Breaks Out Under Wapping Railway Arches
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters rushed to a fire at a business under the railway arches on Cable Street, Wapping. The blaze broke out just after 4.15pm, sparking chaos in the area.
Firefighters Tackle Flames, Traffic Chaos Ensues
Station Commander Mark Jordan, on the scene, confirmed the fire started in a business premises beneath the arches. He warned: “There are no road closures in place but traffic is heavy, so we advise people to avoid the area if possible.”
Train services on the DLR are also affected, running at reduced speeds due to the incident.
Damage and Aftermath
The fire has now been brought under control, but traffic remains snarled as crews continue their work. One railway arch unit used to store rickshaws suffered damage in the blaze.
Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries. Fire teams from Shoreditch, Shadwell, Dockhead, Millwall, Poplar, and Station 1 were involved in tackling the fire.
