Man Rescued as Fan Heater Blaze Rips Through London Flat
Fire on First Floor Causes Chaos
A fire tore through a first-floor bedroom, forcing a dramatic rescue on a third-floor roof terrace. Firefighters pulled a man to safety before London Ambulance crews rushed him to hospital. Two women escaped the building before the blaze began and were later treated by ambulance staff.
Blaze Blamed on Fan Heater
The London Fire Brigade says the fire was accidental, sparked by a fan heater placed too close to flammable materials. The burner’s positioning sparked a blaze that quickly took hold.
Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Safety Warning
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson urged caution: “Fan heaters should always be used in an uncluttered space where heat and air flow is unrestricted.”
“Keep heaters away from curtains, furniture, and paperwork. Never use them to dry clothes. Stay at least a metre away—especially when working from home—to prevent fires from clothes or chairs catching light. Position heaters where they can’t be knocked over or disturbed by pets.”
Massive Response from Fire Crews
The Brigade got the call at 4.06pm and had the fire under control by 5.19pm. Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters from Ealing, Acton, Park Royal, Wembley, and Chiswick rushed to tackle the blaze.
