DVLA Launches Digital Inclusion Scheme with Laptop Donations in Swansea
The DVLA has kicked off its new Digital Inclusion Scheme by donating IT equipment to Swansea Council. The initiative aims to supply local authorities across Wales with digital devices to distribute to schools, tackling digital exclusion head-on.
Bridging the Digital Divide for Welsh Students
With a focus on building vital digital skills, the scheme ensures young learners aren’t left behind in today’s tech-driven world. Swansea is proud to be the first council to receive these donated laptops.
Julie Lennard, Chief Executive of the DVLA:
“I’m very proud of this new initiative and thrilled that Swansea Council is the first to receive our donated laptops. Digital inclusion is critical to ensuring all students have access to the technology they need to develop their skills and support the region.”
Swansea Council Leads the Way
Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council:
“I’m thrilled Swansea is the first local authority working with the DVLA on this scheme. We are committed to making sure all our schools and students have access to digital devices both at home and at school.”
“Many students have already started using the equipment, benefiting not just themselves but their families too. Thanks to the DVLA for including us in this brilliant community effort.”
Green Tech: Promoting the Circular Economy
The Digital Inclusion Scheme also champions the circular economy by repurposing IT gear. This reduces tech waste and helps the DVLA achieve zero carbon emissions. Extending the life of laptops means fewer discarded devices and a greener future.
Primary and secondary schools across Wales are invited to join. Local authorities can sign up through the DVLA’s STEM website to get involved in this game-changing scheme.
