EasyJet Flight Forced Back to Gatwick After Engine Scare
An easyJet jet heading to Turkey’s Dalaman had to turn tail and return to London Gatwick just minutes after takeoff on Tuesday morning. Passengers faced an unexpected delay following a technical glitch mid-air.
Engine Trouble Over the English Channel
The Airbus A320 (registration G-EZPB) took off from Gatwick at 8:15am on May 14, 2024. The nearly four-hour flight was progressing smoothly until the plane crossed the English Channel. That’s when the pilots spotted engine problems and sprung into action.
Emergency Descent and Return
The crew dropped altitude from 29,000 feet down to 14,000 feet and circled briefly to assess the situation. Soon after, they were cleared to turn back and land safely at Gatwick. Passengers were held on the tarmac, awaiting news and a replacement aircraft.
EasyJet Rescues Stranded Passengers
EasyJet acted fast, bringing in another Airbus A320 (G-EZRY) to finish the job. The substitute flight, #U28563, departed Gatwick at 12:19pm and touched down in Dalaman just before 6pm local time, finally getting passengers to their destination.
