Community Mourns Brave Brain Cancer Fighter Freya Bevan
The heartfelt service for Freya Bevan, who tragically passed away last month, was held at Margam Crematorium in Neath Port Talbot. Along the route, crowds gathered to pay their respects to the brave young girl from Neath.
Battle with Brain Tumour Sparked £200k Fundraiser
Freya’s battle began aged just 22 months when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in May 2014. She underwent two major brain surgeries, chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant. In 2015, she travelled with her family to Oklahoma for cutting-edge proton beam therapy.
After returning home, Freya faced a heartbreaking relapse in October 2020. A routine scan revealed the tumour had come back, leading to a gruelling nine-hour operation. Her family once again sought treatment in the US.
Family Pays Touching Tribute to ‘Sweetest Warrior’
“No more pokes, or pills or hospital visits, you are free now our beautiful angel,” they said. “Our hearts are completely broken… heaven has gained the sweetest and most beautiful warrior there ever was.”
“Our brave, beautiful, precious Freya is now healed from cancer and getting big cwtches in heaven from her beloved great grandmother.”
Sporting Tributes and Calls to Wear Pink
In memory of Freya, her family urged supporters to wear pink to honour her fight. Swansea Rugby Club showed solidarity by announcing on Twitter:
“On this extremely difficult day, the boys will be wearing pink bows on their jerseys in celebration and tribute to Freya.”
