The Hunger Games is coming to London in a groundbreaking live stage debut! Set to open at the brand-new 1,200-seat Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre in October 2025, this first-ever theatrical adaptation promises to bring Suzanne Collins’ dystopian sensation to life like never before.
Theatrical Twist on a Global Smash
Written by acclaimed Irish playwright Conor McPherson (The Weir, Girl From the North Country) and directed by Matthew Dunster (2:22 – A Ghost Story, The Pillowman), the play rewrites the blockbuster novel and hit Lionsgate films for the stage. Dunster promises a “thrillingly theatrical” experience with immersive, in-the-round staging that throws the audience right into the heart of the deadly Hunger Games arena.
The story follows 24 young tributes battling to survive for the entertainment of a ruthless dystopian regime. Performances kick off on October 20, 2025, promising edge-of-your-seat drama.
Collins and Creatives Back New Take
“I’m thrilled that The Hunger Games is in the hands of gifted playwright Conor McPherson and accomplished director Matthew Dunster. Conor has done a fantastic adaptation, which is quite unique from the screenplay. And Matthew’s immersive, dynamic staging gives the audience a brand-new way to experience the story.” – Suzanne Collins
McPherson said: “As a dad to a teenager, it’s especially gratifying working on a story whose values speak to young people in these uncertain times. Our focus is to honour Suzanne’s work with a faithful and thrilling stage version.”
Dunster added, “We’ve spent over a year workshopping with a world-class team to deliver something as edgy and impactful as the novel and movies, but purely for theatre. This is our own take.”
A Theatre Built for Panem
The state-of-the-art Troubadour Theatre was custom-built to launch The Hunger Games: On Stage. Producers promise the immersive set design will make audiences feel they’re part of the brutal Games themselves.
“This extraordinary theatre perfectly matches the scale and spectacle of Suzanne Collins’ world. It’s the ideal home for Panem and our electrifying production,” said Troubadour founders Tristan Baker and Oliver Royds.
