M1 Shut After Serious Multi-Car Smash Near St Albans
The northbound M1 in Hertfordshire is closed between Junction 8 and Junction 9 following a major multi-vehicle collision. Emergency teams, including Hertfordshire Police and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, are on the scene.
Follow Diversion Route 1 to Avoid the Chaos
Drivers are advised to take Diversion 1, marked by a hollow diamond symbol:
- Exit the M1 at Junction 8 near St Albans and join the A414 Breakspear Way.
- Continue to the roundabout with the A4147 and join A4147 northbound (Maylands Avenue).
- At the next roundabout, take the first exit, then the third exit at the following roundabout.
- Carry on until the roundabout with the B487 and join B487 (Redbourn Road/Hemel Hempstead Road).
- At the roundabout with the A5183, turn onto the A5183 (1 Road) and then rejoin the M1 at Junction 9.
