Kent Police sprang into action at around 8pm after furious locals reported a rowdy gang smashing glass bottles and hurling abuse in Whitstable’s Old Bridge Road area.

New Dispersal Order Enforced Until Thursday Morning
The dispersal order covers the entire zone from Joy Lane to Tower Hill, Old Bridge Road, and the train station. It will remain in force until the morning of Thursday, 4 June.
During this time, officers and PCSOs have the power to stop and push on anyone causing trouble. Those who refuse to leave or sneak back risk being arrested.
Community Safety Chief Issues Stern Warning
Inspector Guy Thompson of Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: “Further orders will be introduced if similar situations arise again. We appreciate people want to enjoy our beaches in Whitstable and Herne Bay, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of residents, businesses, or other visitors.”
“We’re still in a pandemic and urge everyone to act responsibly and follow government advice.”
“No one welcomes disorder, abuse, criminal damage or nuisance behaviour. Consider the impact your actions have on others, or our officers will take action against persistent offenders.”
“Residents are encouraged to report any concerns via our website or by calling 101 (999 if a crime is in progress) so we can respond effectively.”
