South Wales Fire Heroes Pick Up Queen’s Birthday Honours

Two South Wales fire service legends are celebrating a royal nod in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Councillor Tudor Davies and Group Manager Shaun Moody have been recognised for their extraordinary dedication to public safety and community service.

SHAUN MOODY: Global Rescue Guru

Group Manager Shaun Moody is a heavyweight in search and rescue. Awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM), Shaun has transformed training across South Wales and beyond. His expertise earned him a spot on the European Union Civil Protection Unit, where he shapes rescue techniques Europe-wide.

Shaun masterminded the world’s largest rescue event in Cardiff and has led frontline aid during devastating earthquakes in Sumatra, New Zealand, and Nepal. His local hero status includes receiving the Mayor Citizenship Award at both Gold and Platinum levels.

When he’s not in action, Shaun volunteers his time mentoring firefighters globally, from Ghana to Romania. His unrivalled reputation in rescue training makes him a true asset to the UK and international emergency services.

TUDOR DAVIES: The Fire Authority’s Driving Force

At 81, Councillor Tudor Davies continues to drive change as Chair of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority. Honoured with an MBE, Tudor’s 37-year career includes steering a major fire station review that saved £2 million while slashing fire deaths to record lows.

His push for closer cooperation among Wales’ fire services pocketed over £7 million in savings in five years, proving that teamwork really does make the dream work. Tudor also dedicates years to charity fundraising, raising thousands for cancer research and other causes in Caerphilly and beyond.

Chief Fire Officer Praises Dedication

“These accolades are truly well-deserved,” said South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Huw Jakeway QFSM. “We are fortunate to have councillors and officers like Tudor and Shaun who work tirelessly not only to protect South Wales but also to share their skills UK-wide. They inspire us all.”
