Tornado Warning Hits London and South East – Brace for Storm Chaos!
The Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) has slammed a tornado alert on London and surrounding counties. Thunderstorms, hail, and fierce winds up to 55mph are forecast across the South East, South West, and parts of East Anglia.
Yellow Weather Warning: Tornadoes and Thunderstorms Expected
TORRO’s yellow severe weather warning warns of isolated tornadoes hitting localised areas. Expect strong gusts, hail possibly 1cm wide, and cloud-to-ground lightning flashes. “One or more small-scale circulations may evolve,” the report says, adding unpredictability to the mix.
“Gusty winds, hail, and occasional cloud-to-ground lightning may accompany the stronger cores.” – TORRO
The alert flags “mesolows” – tiny pockets of low pressure – that could create a “focussed risk corridor” for tornadoes and whipping winds. While UK twisters are not as intense as those in the US, TORRO notes 36 occur annually, often causing major local disruptions.
Heads Up from the Met Office
The Met Office backs the warning with its own alert for strong winds and heavy rain later in the week. It predicts gusts around 27mph for London, less severe than TORRO’s estimate but still enough to cause trouble.
- Today and tomorrow: overcast skies with some sunshine
- Highs of 18°C, lows around 13°C in London
Safety First: What You Need to Know
Authorities are urging Londoners and residents across affected areas to stay alert. Secure garden furniture, stay indoors during storms, and think twice before travelling. This warning lands after England’s wettest September on record, with flood alerts still active around London and Heathrow Airport due to high tides.
Keep following updates from TORRO and the Met Office to stay ahead of the weather chaos.
