Double Storm Alert: UK Faces Torrential Rain and Fierce Winds
The UK is on high alert as two tropical storms, Humberto and Imelda, steam towards the nation, set to unleash relentless rain and savage winds. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning from Wednesday evening through Friday morning. Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of northwest England are in the firing line for the worst of the storm chaos.
When and Where the Storms Will Hit
- Warnings active from 5pm Wednesday until 6am Friday.
- Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, including Glasgow, and coastal areas to the north will bear the brunt.
- Persistent, heavy showers will batter these regions throughout the week.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Chris Bulmer warns: “Rain will be particularly persistent in western Scotland from Wednesday onwards, with 50-75mm across wide areas and over 100mm on west-facing mountains. Winds will climb late Thursday, especially on exposed western coasts. From Friday into Saturday, Humberto and Imelda could bring very strong winds and further heavy rain, though the exact track remains uncertain.”
Humberto and Imelda: A Rare and Dangerous Double Storm Brewing
Hurricane Humberto, near Bermuda, is regaining strength and edging towards the UK this weekend. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Imelda — which has already wreaked havoc in Florida and caused deadly floods in Cuba — may combine with Humberto to form a volatile storm system. Satellite images show these twin tempests spinning in the Southwest Atlantic, threatening to crash into British shores with unusual force.
Floods, Power Cuts and Travel Chaos Expected
Officials warn of extreme flooding, widespread power outages, and dangerous travel conditions as torrential rain and gale-force winds hit. Drivers must take care on slippery and flooded roads. The Met Office remains on high alert, ready to update warnings as the storms develop.
Sunny Start Before Storm Strikes
- Eastern and southern England, plus Wales, will enjoy mild, drier weather at the start of the week, with temperatures reaching high teens to low 20s Celsius.
- But from Friday, brace for a brutal shift as rain and strong gales sweep across the country.
