UK Braces for “Dangerous” Weather as Hurricane Ernesto Hits
The UK is gearing up for a battering as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto sweep in. The Met Office has slapped yellow weather warnings across Scotland, Wales, and England, warning of strong winds and torrential rain that could disrupt daily life.
Ernesto’s Fury Hits Home
After tearing through the western Atlantic and smashing Bermuda, Hurricane Ernesto is now lashing the UK. Though weakened, its tail is already pounding the Irish coast with heavy rain and gusty winds.
The Met Office’s warnings focus on western Scotland, northern England, and north Wales — lasting through Wednesday and Thursday. Expect Scotland to get hit first with relentless rain, followed by fierce winds the next day.
Scotland Takes the Brunt: Flood Warnings in Place
Scotland faces the worst of it, with up to 150mm of rain falling in 24 hours – that’s a full month’s worth dumped in a day. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued 12 flood warnings and 14 alerts to tackle the impending deluge.
“A band of rain will move in from the west on Wednesday morning,” warned Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly. “It will slow down and bring heavy bursts, especially over Scotland’s high ground. Gusts could reach 60mph, creating dangerous coastal conditions, especially near the Irish Sea and western Scotland where spring tides might make it worse.”
Storm to Ease Later, But Unsettled Weather to Persist
While Ernesto will start to fade later this week, the Met Office warns weather will remain unsettled. Northern and western regions can expect further rain and wind, though southern and eastern areas may enjoy slightly calmer, drier spells.
Residents in affected areas are urged to stay vigilant, prepare for possible flooding, and keep an eye on weather updates as Ernesto’s wet and wild legacy rolls through the UK.
