High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash and Arrests in Charlton
Emergency services swarmed Thorntree Road, Charlton, after a daring police chase ended in a collision that left suspects trapped inside a car.
Crash at Wolfe Crescent Junction Stops Traffic
The drama unfolded around 1pm on Wednesday when the stolen vehicle smashed into another at the Wolfe Crescent junction. Fire crews and paramedics rushed to the scene, closing the road in both directions.
Transport for London (TFL) confirmed bus route 340 is now on a diversion due to the road closure.
Three Arrested as Police Pursue Stolen Vehicle
A Met Police spokesman said: “At 12:51pm on Wednesday 18 January, officers tried to stop a stolen car in Woolwich. The driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.”
“Just five minutes later, at 12:56pm, the vehicle crashed at Wolfe Crescent and Thorntree Road.”
“Three men inside the car were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft. Two were taken to hospital but released with non-life-threatening injuries and now remain in custody.”
“The road was closed while the car was recovered and reopened at around 2:20pm. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The Met and London Fire Brigade remain tight-lipped as investigations continue into the chase and crash.
