Grandma Burns in Shocking Gas Explosion at Kent Home
An elderly woman suffered burns to her head and hands after a violent gas explosion ripped through her home in Deal, Kent, last night.
Neighbours Rescue Woman From Blazing Blast
Emergency services rushed to Archery Square, Walmer near Deal, just after 9pm following reports of a gas explosion. Neighbours had bravely pulled the woman out before firefighters arrived.
Fire crews treated her burns, cooled her down, and gave oxygen therapy. She was then taken into hospital care by South East Coast Ambulance Service.
Kitchen Explosion Causes Major Damage
The blast originated in the kitchen, smashing rear downstairs windows and cracking an internal wall. Firefighters discovered a gas cooker knob left turned on. The victim said the explosion happened as she switched on her electric kettle.
A small fire broke out on the kitchen table from scattered burning items. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly doused the flames with a hose reel jet, preventing further damage.
Thankfully, the situation was brought under control swiftly, but the incident serves as a stark reminder about gas safety in the home.
