Southend Knife Bins Set for a Bold New Look
Southend, Essex, and Thurrock’s 15 knife disposal bins are getting a much-needed facelift. These bins have already scooped up thousands of knives every year, playing a crucial role in keeping the streets safer.
Why Knife Bins Matter
- They cut down the number of knives in homes and public places by encouraging people to hand them in.
- Offer a safe, legal way to ditch unwanted knives and weapons.
- Send a strong message: illegal knives won’t be tolerated and have serious consequences.
- Help slash violent crime rates across Essex.
Youth Team-Up to Redesign Knife Bins
The authorities are calling on local youngsters to create fresh anti-knife posters. Three winners—one each from Southend, Essex, and Thurrock—will have their designs plastered on the revamped knife bins.
Judging the contest are big names like Brooke Kinsella from the Ben Kinsella Trust, EastEnders star Louisa Lytton, Essex Police Chief Constable BJ Harrington, and Essex’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst.
