Heaton-Harris Heads to Washington for St. Patrick’s Day and Belfast Agreement Anniversary

Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harris MP, has touched down in Washington D.C. to mark St. Patrick’s Day and strengthen ties with key US partners on Northern Ireland affairs.

Key Meetings with US Politicians and Business Leaders

During his visit, Heaton-Harris will hold a series of meetings with American political figures and business organisations. The goal: to reinforce collaboration and discuss Northern Ireland’s future.

Spotlight on 25 Years of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement

With the 25th anniversary of the historic Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement just weeks away, Heaton-Harris is set to underline the UK government’s unwavering commitment to upholding the deal in full.

He’ll also map out plans to celebrate this landmark milestone — a peace deal that reshaped Northern Ireland and transformed relationships on both sides.

Promoting Peace, Prosperity, and Devolution

The Secretary of State will highlight efforts to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland and promote making the region an even better place to live.

Before his trip, Heaton-Harris said:

“I’m delighted to be returning to the United States as people around the world begin celebrations to mark St. Patrick’s Day. This year heralds the 25th anniversary of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, an extraordinary achievement in the history of the United Kingdom and Ireland which has broken down boundaries, brought people together and opened up opportunities. It is an opportune moment to celebrate our special relationship with the US and take stock of the progress we have seen over the past quarter century.”

“I look forward to continuing the Government’s constructive dialogue with US representatives, and providing an update on our work to further progress Northern Ireland’s prosperity.”
