Fugitive Nabbed Down Under and Shipped Back to UK
AFP Joins Forces with AUSTRAC to Track Down Fugitive
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) launched a full-scale hunt after receiving a UK extradition request. Teaming up with Australia’s financial watchdog AUSTRAC, the AFP’s Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (FAST) zeroed in on the suspect’s location and workplace.
Man Arrested and Handed Over to UK Authorities
On December 15, 2022, AFP officers arrested the man and held him in custody. After months of coordination, on March 17, 2023, the Metropolitan Police took over and escorted the fugitive back to the UK to face justice.
AFP Warns Fugitives: Australia Is No Safe Haven
“The trusted partnerships the AFP has with overseas law enforcement agencies remains the key to this type of valuable cooperation that protects the Australian community,” said AFP Assistant Commissioner Crime Command Kirsty Schofield.
“The Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team – FAST – targets offenders who are the subject of arrest warrants for murder, sex offences, drug trafficking, money laundering and serious fraud.”
The AFP worked closely with the UK authorities and the Australian Attorney-General’s Department to see the extradition through. International lawbreakers be warned: Australia is watching.
