Huddersfield Police Sweep for Weapons in Major Crackdown
Mass Sweeps Hit Local Hotspots
Huddersfield’s Neighbourhood Policing Team launched a no-nonsense weapons sweep on November 5. Officers swept through Birkby, Salendine Nook, Harpe Hinge, and surrounding areas as part of the ongoing Operation Jemlock campaign.
The police combed playing fields, woodlands, hedgerows, and other hiding spots. Their haul included a machete and a hammer — deadly weapons taken off local streets.
Full Patrols in Key Areas
- Norman Park, Birkby
- The Pavilion on Spaines Road
- Salendine Nook Playing Fields
- Harpe Hinge Communal Area
- Rawthorpe Lane
These areas were fully scoured to root out dangerous weapons and keep communities safe.
Operation Jemlock: Fighting Knife Crime
Launched in April 2019, Operation Jemlock was a direct response to rising knife crime and violence in West Yorkshire. Thanks to extra funding from the Home Office, officers have slammed a significant dent in knife offences and robberies since then.
“This day of action was organised as part of Operation Jemlock with a view to ensuring any weapons that had either been hidden or discarded in areas were removed prior to any incidents of Anti-Social Behaviour during what is always a busy and eventful evening and night,” said Insp Graham Dyson.
With the nights drawing in and anti-social behaviour on the rise, Huddersfield police are showing no mercy to weapon carriers and troublemakers.
