Three Arrested in South London Over Multi-Million Dollar Inheritance Scam
Three men from Nigeria, all in their forties, have been snapped up in South London as part of a major international fraud bust. Jonathan Iheanyichukwu Abraham, Emmanuel Samuel, and Jerry Ozor were arrested at separate addresses yesterday morning and have since been remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates Court ahead of extradition proceedings.
International Crackdown Targets Ruthless Fraud Network
The sting didn’t stop in the UK. Spanish authorities swooped on additional suspects in Madrid, while linked operations unfolded in Portugal. This global takedown comes after authorities uncovered a sprawling fraud ring conning millions from vulnerable elderly victims in the US.
The National Crime Agency worked hand-in-hand with the US Department of Justice, US Postal Inspection Service, and European partners. Their coordinated efforts pinpointed, arrested suspects, and seized crucial evidence spanning multiple countries.
Cruel Scam Preyed on Elderly Victims with Fake Inheritance Letters
The gang’s sinister scheme relied on sending unsolicited letters telling victims they were set to inherit from long-lost relatives who had died. Hooked by the promise of sudden wealth, victims were pressured into paying bogus fees and charges. The fallout has been catastrophic, with thousands targeted and millions of dollars lost across the board.
David Smithers, NCA Senior Investigating Officer, said: “Anyone can be a victim of fraud, but this scam was particularly cruel as it repeatedly and deliberately targeted the elderly and vulnerable.
“This joint operation shows how complex organised fraud is — often transnational, with ruthless criminal networks working together to pick their victims.
“Extradition proceedings will now start to send these suspects to the US to face justice.
“The NCA is committed to taking down high-risk, serious criminals involved in fraud — crimes that can destroy lives. We will keep working with international partners to build intelligence and stop these perpetrators.”
