Teen Girls Arrested After Brutal Attack on Orthodox Woman in Haringey
Two teenage girls, aged 13 and 14, have been arrested after violently assaulting a 20-year-old Orthodox Jewish woman in London’s Haringey. The shocking attack happened at around 4:30pm on Thursday, sparking fears it was a targeted hate crime.
Shocking Footage Shows Assault and Robbery in Stamford Hill
The victim was followed, attacked, and robbed of her handbag on Rostrevor Avenue, Stamford Hill — a London area with a large Orthodox Jewish population. Disturbing video shared by neighbourhood watch group Shomrim shows the woman thrown to the ground and repeatedly hit before her assailants fled. Though bruised, she did not require hospital treatment. Passersby rushed to help immediately after the attackers escaped.
Police Make Arrests, Investigate Possible Hate Crime
Police arrested the two girls on Saturday at a Haringey address. Both remain in custody on suspicion of robbery. Detective Sergeant Asli Benson, leading the probe, called the attack “terrifying” for the victim. She added:
“The victim is from the Orthodox Jewish community. It would have been obvious from her appearance that she was Jewish, and there has been significant concern that she was targeted for that reason.”
With antisemitic hate crimes on the rise — especially amid recent terror attacks in Israel — the community’s fears are heightened. The police are treating the assault as a potential hate crime and continue to investigate motives behind the brutal attack.
Police Appeal for Information
The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips can also be given anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers. This incident highlights the urgent need for vigilance and community support in London to tackle hate crimes and protect vulnerable groups.
