Massive Grass Fire Hits Fareham – Smoke Seen from Isle of Wight!

Residents in Fareham’s LocksHeath and HuntsPond areas have been warned to stay indoors with all windows and doors shut. Fire crews from Hightown and Fareham are battling a large grass fire raging on Titchfield Common.

Smoke Plumes Cloud the Skies

Thick smoke plumes from the blaze are visible all the way across the Solent, even on the Isle of Wight. Firefighters tackled the fire, which broke out near Hunts Pond Road this afternoon, covering roughly 100m by 100m of scorched grassland.

Firefighters Take Precautionary Steps

To combat the blaze, crews used two hose reels, one main jet, and beaters to stop the flames spreading and to damp down hotspots. As a safety measure, two nearby homes were evacuated, while locals were advised to keep indoors and seal up all windows and doors.

Cause Still Unknown, Fire Now Under Control

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters brought the situation under control just before 4:40pm.
