Rampage in Ramsgate Ends Behind Bars
Christopher Rogers, 31, went on a violent rampage after threatening his ex-partner in Ramsgate. He was sentenced to five years for possessing a knife, attempted wounding with intent, and assaulting a police officer at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 20 August 2018.
Chaos Erupts During Domestic Incident
Police were called out at 11.14pm on Thursday, 31 May 2018, after reports that Rogers was verbally abusing his ex, refusing to leave her flat, and even spitting at her. The man grabbed two kitchen knives before finally leaving the property, but the nightmare was far from over.
Violent Confrontation with Officers
While officers took a statement from the victim, another patrol went to Rogers’ home, where he confronted them wielding knives. He retreated to his bedroom but then threw a 10kg dumbbell at PC Mark Bramwell, striking him.
Rogers continued his assault, hurling another dumbbell and a kitchen knife. The knife missed the PC by inches and shattered on the wall. The brave officers withdrew and called for backup, arriving with riot shields to detain Rogers safely.
Court Praises Police Bravery
During the interview, Rogers claimed to have little memory of the evening or the attack but admitted the offences after being shown bodycam footage.
“But for their calm and measured actions, an even more serious offence may have been committed,” said His Honour Judge James, commending PCs Mark Bramwell, Daniel Sheppard, and Liam Johnson.
Investigating Officer PC Christopher Howard added: “The officers faced aggression and violence when responding to a serious domestic abuse report. Despite their efforts to defuse the situation calmly, they faced real danger.”
“The bodycam footage captures the abuse Rogers inflicted on officers, and despite his claims, he admitted the offences after seeing it.”
