West End Sex Attacker Locked Up for 18 Months
A man who launched a sexual assault in a central London park has been jailed. Gergo Brummel, 33, from Crescent Road, SE18, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday, 5 March, after being found guilty.
Additional Sentence for Restraining Order Breach
Brummel also received 20 weeks behind bars for breaching a restraining order linked to a separate offence. Both sentences will run consecutively, doubling his time inside.
Brutal Park Attack Ended by Brave Police
The attack happened in Green Park, W1, in the early hours of Friday, 20 April 2018. Officers on patrol in Piccadilly heard a woman screaming from inside the park. They rushed in to find Brummel struggling with the victim.
The woman said Brummel had grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her. She fought back fiercely before the scuffle broke out. Police found a condom nearby carrying Brummel’s DNA.
Police Praise Quick Response
“If it was not for the quick actions of the officers that night, I have no doubt that Brummel’s attack would have escalated,” said Detective Constable Mick Heaney from Westminster police. “I would like to thank those officers but also the victim for supporting this investigation. This has resulted in a dangerous man being put behind bars.”
On his release, Brummel must sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
