Speed Demon Jailed After Horrific Head-On Crash
A reckless driver who smashed into another car at nearly double the speed limit has been locked up for two years. Adam Fisher, 30, was hurtling at up to 70mph down Gore Road in Dartford when he collided head-on with a man in his 40s back in February 2018.
High-Speed Horror on Gore Road
The legal speed limit was 40mph, but Fisher ignored it completely. Minutes before the crash at around 10pm, he swerved into the wrong lane, narrowly missing another car. The driver of that oncoming vehicle spotted hazard lights flashing ahead and stopped to help, only to find a terrifying scene.
Fisher’s car had slammed into the victim’s, forcing the man’s vehicle into a ditch. The victim was drifting in and out of consciousness and rushed to a London hospital with life-changing injuries.
Drink, Speed and a Costly Crash
Police discovered Fisher had been drinking before the smash – and was over the legal limit. Both cars and the road were in perfect condition, ruling out any outside factors.
Police Constable Natalie Rowley said: “The sole reason for this collision was Fisher’s senseless decision to ignore the speed limit after consuming alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit. His poor choice left an innocent man suffering the consequences of his actions. There were no mitigating circumstances. It is entirely right that he has received a custodial sentence and I hope that other motorists will learn from the lessons of this case.”
Fisher pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Woolwich Crown Court and was sentenced on 30 April. Justice served for the victim – and a warning to all speed demons out there.
