Man Jailed After Fatal Street Brawl in Sunderland
Liam Wright has been locked up for fatally attacking 36-year-old Carl Loughran on Borough Road, Sunderland, in August. The violent blow came after a heated street argument, with Wright landing four punches to Carl’s head. The fourth punch proved deadly, knocking Carl off balance and causing a catastrophic brain injury.
Victim Left for Dead After Brutal Attack
After the assault, 33-year-old Wright coldly walked away, leaving Carl fighting for his life on the road. Passersby rushed to help and called emergency services. Carl was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull and severe brain injury but tragically died two days later.
Wright Admits Manslaughter and Gets Over Five Years
Wright, from Rangoon Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Newcastle Crown Court on September 2. Yesterday, he was sentenced to five years and four months behind bars.
The court heard Wright was with two other men when he confronted Carl just after 3:30pm on August 1. CCTV footage shows Wright landing four punches, all hitting Carl’s head. The final blow caused Carl to fall heavily, resulting in fatal injuries.
Wright glanced back at the motionless victim before walking off, showing no remorse.
A Stark Warning: Violence Has Devastating Consequences
This case sends a brutal message: throwing punches on the street is a gamble that can destroy lives. Wright chose violence, and a man is now dead because of it. Five years and four months in prison is the consequence of that choice.
