Drug Dealer Who Punched Shop Worker Jailed for Five Years

Oakley Ellis launched a shocking punch at a shop worker before fleeing a Church Street store in Cliffe without paying. The thug, from Parkway, Erith, was caught on CCTV and swiftly tracked down by cops.

Drugs and Robbery: A Double Whammy

Detectives soon uncovered Ellis’s darker side – he was peddling Class A drugs to dealers in Gillingham. On 18 November, officers spotted him in Southend Close, Eltham. As they moved in, Ellis tried to ditch drugs through a car window but was arrested on the spot.

Police found 20.72 grams of crack cocaine and 6.85 grams of cocaine in the vehicle. His phone revealed incriminating texts about drug supplies. Ellis faced multiple charges: robbery, and supply of crack cocaine and heroin.

Guilty Plea and Heavy Sentence

Ellis pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on 12 August 2021. On 8 December, the 24-year-old was sentenced to two years and six months for the robbery and drug offences in Kent.

But that wasn’t all. Ellis also got another two years and six months for crimes in Hull, including possession of cocaine and ketamine with intent to supply, plus possessing criminal property (cash).

All told, Ellis was slammed with a total of five years behind bars.

Detective’s Verdict: Justice Served

“This criminal was very much involved in the supply of heroin and cocaine from London to the Medway towns. Despite the profits he undoubtedly made, he did not hesitate to assault a shop worker to avoid paying for a few food items,” said Detective Constable Mark Donovan of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.

“He has now been brought to justice for his crimes in Kent and the north after our proactive investigators tracked him down. It is only right he starts a lengthy prison sentence.”
