Drink-Driver Jailed After Wild Police Chase in Nottingham
A reckless drink-driver who sped wildly through Nottingham, putting lives at risk, has been locked up. Jason Gordon, 31, led police on a terrifying chase, ignoring traffic laws and endangering others at every turn.
Dashcam Captures Bizarre Wrong-Way Maneuver
Dashcam footage shows Gordon driving the wrong way around a bollard and heading straight into oncoming traffic during his desperate escape. Spotted speeding at around 80mph in a 40mph zone on the A610, Gordon’s antics began at 9pm on 9 January 2022.
He passed police before turning onto Woodhouse Way, momentarily held up behind a gritter lorry. But instead of stopping, he bolted again, refusing police orders and continuing a prolonged and dangerous high-speed run.
Luckily, the chase ended without injury or damage when Gordon’s car finally halted and he was arrested. A breath test revealed 72 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath — more than double the 35mcg legal limit.
Repeat Offender Caught Riding Stolen Motorbike Under Influence
Six months later, Gordon was nabbed again, this time riding a stolen motorbike while disqualified, and drunk to boot. The bike was stolen from outside a charity shop in Eastwood on 31 August 2022. Locals spotted him and detained him at a Co-op in Hill Top before police arrived.
Another breathalyser showed 96mcg, nearly three times the legal limit. CCTV caught him riding the stolen bike, and he pleaded guilty to theft, driving while disqualified, and driving with excess alcohol.
Theft and Assault Adds To Gordon’s Crimes
But Gordon’s criminal spree didn’t stop there. Nottingham Crown Court heard he was involved in stealing £210 worth of food with two others in Alfreton, Derbyshire, on 3 November 2022. When he returned to demand his bike back, Gordon pushed a staff member in the chest.
He was restrained by members of the public and arrested. Gordon pleaded guilty to theft and assault.
Judge Jails Gordon Despite His Claims Of Turning Life Around
In mitigation, Gordon said his downward spiral was triggered by a broken relationship that led to homelessness and substance abuse. He claimed to be getting support and housing now.
Still, the judge sentenced him to 12 months in prison, banned him from driving for three years and six months, and ordered an extended driving test after the ban.
Inspector John Lees, Nottinghamshire Police: “Gordon showed absolutely no regard for people’s safety or wellbeing during his catalogue of appalling offending. This case shows how dangerous drinking and driving really is.
We want to make it clear – if you drive under the influence and put others at risk, you will be caught and face court.”
