Nicu Botnari Jailed for Raping Housemate in Northampton
In the early hours of October 11, 2020, a woman was relaxing in the garden with her housemates after a long shift. Among the guests was Nicu Botnari, an acquaintance from Northampton’s Headlands area.
After the woman went to bed, she was horrified to find Botnari on top of her, committing rape. He fled the house shortly after, but the victim bravely reported the attack to the police.
Eight Years Behind Bars
Botnari was swiftly arrested and charged. At Northampton Crown Court in December, he was found guilty of one count of rape. Today, he was sentenced to eight years in prison for the brutal attack.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
“As a police force, we never underestimate the courage it takes to report a sexual assault,” said Detective Sergeant Andrea Taylor. “Nothing will erase what Botnari did, but the survivor should be proud. Her bravery has taken a dangerous rapist off the streets.”
“This case has had a big impact on her, but we hope today’s sentence offers some comfort. She has so much to look forward to.”
“Violence against women is a top priority for Northamptonshire Police. We will believe survivors, support them, and do everything to put offenders behind bars.”
