Beeston Man Jailed for Brutal Horse Attack in Leeds
Luke Ward, 37, from Upper Woodview Place, Beeston, has been locked up for 45 months after a savage attack on horses in a Leeds field. The shocking assault took place last July at a farm off Hall Lane, Farnley.
Horses Stabbed, Strangled with Shoelace
Ward viciously stabbed, slashed, and even tried to strangle the defenceless horses. One horse was found with a shoelace tied tightly around its neck in a brutal attempt to kill it. Three others suffered deep cuts and nasty injuries.
Knife with Ward’s DNA Found at Scene
- Police recovered an 8-inch blade knife at the farm.
- Forensics confirmed Ward’s DNA on the weapon.
- Ward lived opposite the farm at the time.
Despite initially denying involvement, Ward eventually pled guilty to four counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals during a Leeds Crown Court hearing.
Police Condemn Cruelty and Offer Hope
PC Rachel Harrison, lead investigator, said: “Ward targeted these defenceless animals and caused serious injuries, leaving them in significant pain and distress.”
She added, “He hasn’t explained why he did it; it seems he took some sick satisfaction from the harm. His actions have upset the owners and the local community.”
Ward’s sentence aims to reassure victims and locals that justice has been served for these horrific attacks.
