The victim of a devastating incident near Marykirk, where a car was swept away in floodwater, has been identified as 61-year-old Peter Pelling from Arbroath. The incident occurred around 3 am on Friday, 20 October, when police received a report of a man trapped in a vehicle within floodwaters.

Emergency services swiftly responded, and after an extensive search, both the body of Mr. Pelling and the vehicle were recovered on Monday, 23 October. There are no indications of suspicious circumstances surrounding his tragic death, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

In a heartfelt statement released through Police Scotland, Peter Pelling’s family expressed their profound grief and remembered him as a “very kind, loyal, and hardworking man.” Describing him as a much-loved son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend, the family conveyed their devastation over the “horrific and tragic accident.”

The family extended their gratitude to the first responders and all emergency services involved in the challenging rescue operation, emphasizing the difficulties posed by adverse weather conditions and environmental factors surrounding the incident.
