Kent Police was called at 10pm on Sunday 26 November 2023 following a report of shoplifting at the store in St Dunstans Street.
Officers attended and it was reported that two men working together had stolen items from the shop before one of them assaulted a member of staff.
Following enquiries at the scene, a man was arrested nearby by attending officers.
John Gould has since been charged with theft, assault, possession of a knife, possession of cannabis, criminal damage and a public order offence.
The 20-year-old, of Whitstable Road, Canterbury, has been bailed to appear before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 2 January 2024.
