A sex offender has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls and a woman. The investigation began in October 2019 when Kent Police received a report of a sexual assault on a woman in Dover the previous month.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives discovered there were non-recent offences against two additional victims. Both victims were abused in Ashford when they were children, one in the 1990s and another around 2010. The suspect, Nicholas Lumsden, was identified and subsequently arrested.
Lumsden, a 40-year-old resident of Selcroft Avenue in Birmingham, denied all charges brought against him. However, after a trial at Maidstone Crown Court, he was found guilty of 14 counts, including indecent assault, sexual assault of a child, and sexual activity with a child.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Lumsden appeared before the court again and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. In addition, he was ordered to serve an extra five years on license following his term and was made the subject of a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Antony White, the investigating officer from Kent Police, commended the bravery of the victims for coming forward and supporting the investigation and subsequent prosecution. He emphasized the importance of reporting sexual offences and urged anyone who has been a victim, whether recent or not, to contact the police.
“I hope the fact that Lumsden is now serving a lengthy prison sentence gives the victims some sense that justice has been done,” said Detective Constable Antony White. “We are here to investigate and support those who have been affected by sexual offences.”
