David Malcolm Found Guilty of Manslaughter in St Pauls Stabbing

David Malcolm, 43, from Eastville, has been convicted of manslaughter after fatally stabbing 30-year-old Aliki ‘Alex’ Mamwa in St Pauls earlier this year. The Bristol Crown Court jury delivered the guilty verdict on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Fatal Stabbing Sparks After Personal Dispute

The killing happened on March 5 during a heated confrontation in St Pauls. The jury dismissed Malcolm’s claim of self-defence but ruled he had no intent to kill or cause serious harm. As a result, he was acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter and possession of a bladed weapon.

The violence stemmed from a bitter personal dispute between the two men. Back on February 14, Mamwa was injured in an earlier scuffle, and the next day Malcolm reportedly attacked his girlfriend with a makeshift “fearsome” baseball bat modified with car parts.

Chase Ends in Deadly Stab

On the day of the stabbing, Malcolm prowled St Pauls for over an hour before locating Mamwa. In a brief clash, Malcolm stabbed Mamwa in the upper thigh. Despite rush hospital treatment by taxi, Mamwa died shortly after arrival.

“David Malcolm’s actions that night tragically led to the death of a young man and the loss of a much-loved friend and family member to those who knew him,” said Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who led the probe.

He also praised Mamwa’s family for their dignity throughout and thanked the St Pauls community for their support.

This grim case shines a harsh spotlight on the deadly outcomes of knife crime and personal disputes spiralling out of control. Sentencing for Malcolm is set for Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
