Labour MP Chris Webb Mugged Near London Flat
MP Attacked and Phone Stolen
Blackpool South Labour MP Chris Webb was mugged by a gang as he returned home in London on Monday evening. The attackers made off with his mobile phone, but luckily, Webb was left unhurt.
He shared the ordeal on X (formerly Twitter): “Last night, as I was returning to my flat in London, I was attacked and mugged by a group of individuals. Luckily, I have no injuries and I am ok. Unfortunately, they just took my phone so I’m without one for the foreseeable future.”
Webb also praised the police involved, calling them a “remarkable credit to the force.”
Fellow MPs Offer Support
- Labour colleague Josh Fenton-Glynn wished him well, saying, “Hope you’re okay, mate.”
- MP Jacob Collier added his sympathies: “So sorry to see this, Chris. Best wishes.”
Phone Thefts Surge in London
The mugging highlights a worrying rise in phone thefts across London. Official figures reveal over 66,500 mobile phones were stolen between October 2023 and September 2024 — a staggering 40% increase compared to the year before.
The government has pledged to tackle this spike in “snatch thefts,” as recent data shows the problem worsening nationwide.
