Former England Rugby Star Tom Voyce Feared Dead After Car Swept into River Aln

Tragedy has struck as former England rugby ace Tom Voyce, 43, is feared drowned after his car was carried away by strong currents in Northumberland’s River Aln.

Disappearance at Abberwick Ford

Northumbria Police say Voyce, who played for top clubs including 1 and London Wasps, was last seen on Saturday night after hanging out with friends. He didn’t return home, sparking concern early Sunday.

Investigators believe he tried to cross Abberwick Ford, around three miles from Alnwick, when his car was swept downstream by the raging river. While officers have recovered the vehicle, the rugby star himself remains missing and is feared to have been swept away trying to escape the car.

Police Appeal and Search Efforts

“This is an extremely tragic incident, and our thoughts are very much with Tom’s loved ones at this time,” said Chief Superintendent Helena Barron.

“Our officers continue to support his family, and we would ask that their privacy is respected. Extensive inquiries have been ongoing since concerns were raised for Tom, including deploying specialist teams to search for him.”

Specialist teams are scouring the River Aln area, but hopes of finding Tom alive are fading.

A Rugby Legend Mourned

Tom Voyce was a familiar face in the rugby world, known for his dedication and skill on the pitch. Having represented England and some of the nation’s top clubs, he inspired many fans and teammates alike.

The rugby community is in shock, with heartfelt tributes flooding in from former teammates and supporters mourning the possible loss of a true sportsman and local hero.
