A man has been rushed to a major trauma centre after being struck on the head by a falling object at a Plumstead building site this morning (Wednesday, December 18).
Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and London Air Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene at the junction of Plumstead Road and Villas Road just after 9:00am.
The incident occurred when an item fell down a lift shaft, hitting the worker on the head. Paramedics, including members of the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), arrived on-site within five minutes and began immediate treatment. The man was subsequently transported to a major trauma centre for further care.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said:
“We were called at 8:51am to reports of an incident at a building site in Plumstead.
Resources including ambulance crews, members of HART, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. Crews treated a man before transporting him to a major trauma centre.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed their attendance and stated:
“Officers were called to 95 Plumstead Road at 9.05am to reports of a man struck on the head by an item that fell down a lift shaft. The lift shaft has been sealed to prevent further incidents, and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified.

The building site has been temporarily locked down as the HSE and police carry out investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
