Efforts to recover a derailed high-speed train at Ramsgate railway maintenance depot have been postponed until the new year, according to Southeastern and Network Rail.
The train derailed on 28 November while travelling at low speed in a siding at the depot. Fortunately, there were no passengers on board at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Recovery Challenges
A spokesperson for the Southeastern and Network Rail Alliance explained the delay:
We have a plan to re-rail and recover the damaged train at Ramsgate; however, given the need to use specialist equipment in order to do so, this will now be rescheduled as soon as possible in the new year.
The recovery process involves complex operations and heavy machinery, which are contributing to the rescheduling.
Impact on Services
While the derailed train has not caused significant disruptions to passenger services, Network Rail and Southeastern have assured the public that they are working to resolve the situation promptly and safely.
The train remains in the undergrowth at the depot, with images showing the derailed blue high-speed train surrounded by trees.
The incident has not raised any concerns regarding the safety of ongoing operations at the maintenance depot, but it has highlighted the logistical challenges of recovering large rail equipment from sidings.
Authorities are expected to provide updates on the recovery timeline in the new year.
