Man Locked Up Indefinitely After Fatal Harrow Stabbing

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order following a brutal stabbing that killed a father-of-two in Harrow.

Abdul Khan Jailed Under Mental Health Act

Abdul Khan, of Durham Road, Harrow, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 25 March. Under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act, Khan will be detained in a secure hospital for treatment. A Section 41 restriction means only the Secretary of State for Justice or a mental health tribunal can approve his release.

Khan pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 49-year-old Bohdan Vandzhura on the grounds of diminished responsibility. He also admitted possession of an offensive weapon, attempted murder, and was found guilty of actual bodily harm relating to a separate attack.

Fatal Stabbing Shocks North Harrow

The deadly assault happened on 8 July 2023. Police rushed to Pinner Road after reports of a stabbing. Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance, found Bohdan Vandzhura suffering multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck.

Despite frantic efforts, Mr Vandzhura was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem confirmed multiple stab wounds as the cause of death.

CCTV Footage Leads to Swift Arrests

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Command reviewed CCTV showing Abdul Khan disposing of a weapon and fleeing the scene. Further footage revealed Khan’s father, 62-year-old Khalid Khan, leaving home with a carrier bag containing his son’s bloodied clothes.

Khalid Khan was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison for assisting an offender.

Linked to Earlier Violent Attacks

Investigators connected Khan to two previous violent assaults on the same victim in August 2022 and February 2023. In both attacks, Khan punched and stamped on the man, rendering him unconscious. Police had not identified Khan at the time, but new evidence from the murder investigation confirmed his involvement.

Police Speak Out

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams said:

“Our thoughts remain with Mr Vandzhura’s family and friends. Bohdan was a loving father-of-two who was assaulted, unprovoked, and tragically died from his injuries.

Abdul Khan showed a pattern of violent behaviour and posed a clear threat to the public. He will now remain in a safe place to get the treatment he needs.”
