Police appeal for Witnesses after Newport Murder

Detectives investigating the death of Gary Stacey have appealed to the public to trace two people who might hold information relevant to the investigation. Mr Stacey, 49, was assaulted in St James’ Street, Newport, at 4am on Sunday, February 14 and died the following day. A 20-year-old man from Newport, who was questioned by police on suspicion of murder, is on police bail until June 1. Officers would like to speak to a woman was seen in Yates, Newport, on the night of Saturday, February 13. It is believed she spoke to the victim in the smoking area to the rear of the pub. She is described as white, aged in her early 20s, quite tall and had dark, wavy hair and heavy makeup on her eyes and lips. She wore a black jumpsuit with straps, heels and possibly a belt. This woman had tattoos and is thought to have links with local tattoo artists. Officers would also like to speak to a man who was seen on CCTV walking passed the Next store in St James’ Street, at around 3.47am on Saturday, February 14, and then by Mings Garden Restaurant two minutes later. A CCTV still image of the man has been released (above right). Officers would appeal to these two potential witnesses to come forward, even if they feel they do not have any relevant information for the investigation.
