Newport Murder Inquiry: Police Hunt Key Witnesses After Gary Stacey’s Death
Detectives are urgently seeking two crucial witnesses in connection with the fatal assault of Gary Stacey, 49, in Newport.
Man Dies After Brutal Early Morning Attack
Gary Stacey was attacked at around 4am on Sunday, February 14, on St James’ Street. He sadly died the following day. A 20-year-old local man has been questioned for murder and released on bail until June 1.
Who Was That Woman in Yates Pub?
Police want to speak to a woman spotted on the night before the attack, February 13. She was seen in the smoking area at the back of Yates pub, where she reportedly spoke to the victim. Witnesses describe her as white, early 20s, tall, with dark wavy hair and heavy eye and lip makeup. She wore a black jumpsuit with straps, heels, and possibly a belt.
Importantly, she had visible tattoos and may be connected to local tattoo artists. Officers believe she holds information that could shed light on the events leading to Mr Stacey’s death.
Man Spotted on CCTV Near Scene
Also wanted is a man caught on CCTV at 3:47am on February 14, walking past the Next store on St James’ Street, then heading towards Mings Garden Restaurant two minutes later. Police have released a CCTV still of this man and urge him to come forward.
