Man Dies After Brutal Late-Night Attack on Isle of Wight

A 49-year-old man has died following a violent assault in Newport during the early hours of Sunday, February 14.

Tragic Assault in St James’ Street

Gary Stacey, a local father, was found badly injured with serious head wounds in St James’ Street just before 4am. Rushed to St Mary’s Hospital, he was later airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, but sadly passed away this morning.

Family and Friends Pay Heartfelt Tributes

“Gary was a great, great man, more like a brother to me than a friend,” a close family member said. “There was no such thing as a bad situation for him. He turned everything into an absolute positive and always did it with a smile on his face. He lived for his family, his kids, and his friends. It’s hard to believe he’s gone, but he should be remembered as the fun-loving family man he was.”

Social media has also been flooded with messages of sorrow:

  • “R.I.P Gary. Gone too soon, but we’ll see you again someday, soldier.”
  • “Sad to say one of my brothers’ lives was taken today! RIP, you will be missed, bro.”
  • “I still can’t believe you’re gone. You’ll always be in our hearts. R.I.P Jeff.”
