Burglary Near Maidstone Caught Live on Victim’s Phone
A break-in near Maidstone was streamed live straight to the homeowner’s mobile phone, capturing footage and even the sound of a window smashing. Jordan Boguslawski, 39, had no idea he was being watched as he raided an empty house in Sandway last year. He’s now been slapped with nearly four years behind bars.
Live Footage Reveals Burglary in Action
On 19 September 2019, while the victim was away, her security system sent an alert to her phone. Images showed Boguslawski knocking on the front door before heading to the back. He ripped a camera from the wall, but it kept recording audio, letting the victim hear him smashing a kitchen window to break in.
Inside, Boguslawski ransacked the property, stealing a safe, passports, jewellery, electronics, and over £2,500 in cash.
Police Hunt Leads to Arrest
Kent Police traced a suspicious hire car spotted nearby to Boguslawski. Officers stopped the vehicle in Surrey on 21 September and found stolen items from the Sandway burglary, plus the clothes Boguslawski wore during the raid.
They also uncovered goods from another burglary he committed the same day in Hemel Hempstead.
Sentenced for Multiple Burglaries
Boguslawski, from Ilford, Essex, faced charges for two burglaries and pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court. He was also linked to four other break-ins, including three in Surrey.
On 6 March 2020, he was handed a hefty sentence of three years and eleven months in prison.
“Boguslawski is a prolific thief who would have continued causing misery if caught later,” said Detective Constable Kate Humpheryes of West Kent CID. “Thanks to security cameras, we quickly identified and convicted him. We urge residents and businesses to stay vigilant, double lock doors and windows, and maintain CCTV to capture crystal-clear footage.”
