Kent Braced for Tough New Covid Rules from Monday

Kent residents are being warned to get clued up on the Government’s latest Covid-19 social distancing rules ahead of their rollout next week.

New Six-Person Limit Hits Social Gatherings

From Monday 14 September, England slaps a strict six-person maximum on all social gatherings — indoors and outdoors alike. Whether at home, pubs, or restaurants, groups larger than six will be flat-out illegal.

Breaking the rule could cost you £100 on the spot, doubling with each repeat offence up to a whopping £3,200.

Kent Police Prepare to Crack Down This Weekend

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Nix revealed Kent’s strong record on following the rules, but warned the Government is dead serious about tightening restrictions to curb soaring infections.

“Kent has had a very good compliance rate when it comes to adhering to the national health advice around the coronavirus,” said ACC Nix.

“However, the Government has made it clear that the risk of increasing infections is too great to ignore and stricter social gathering rules will come into effect to help keep everyone safe.”

“Kent Police officers will continue to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the latest advice and enforcement will be used as a last resort.”

As of 10 September, cops in Kent have slapped 127 fixed penalty notices for social distancing breaches.

With warm weather forecast for 12-13 September, Kent Police will ramp up patrols at hotspots to stamp out illegal raves, unlicensed music events, and other rule-breakers. They’ll also team up with councils to keep parks and beaches safe.

Police Warn: This Weekend’s No Last Hurrah

ACC Nix appeals to those eyeing a final social spree before the clampdown:

“Some people may look at this weekend as the last chance to get some wider socialising before stricter rules come into force. However, I would add that Kent Police will continue to enforce the current legislation around gatherings like it has done in recent months.”

“Covid-19 remains a real and deadly threat and we all need to take responsibility for our actions in helping reduce the spread of the virus and ultimately save lives.”
