Gun Gang Sent Down After Dramatic Police Sting in Carshalton

Bekki Dean, 27, from Carshalton, and Bradley Clancy, 39, were slammed with hefty jail terms at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, 11 February. Dean was hit with five years, while Clancy faces 12 years behind bars.

Caught Red-Handed with a Loaded Glock

The pair were convicted back in September 2020 after a trial. Dean was found guilty of conspiracy to transfer a firearm and possession of a firearm and ammo. Clancy was nailed for possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to transfer a firearm.

Their downfall began on the evening of 14 August 2019. Specialist firearms officers stopped Dean driving a black Volkswagen Polo on Peterborough Road, Carshalton. During the stop, Dean admitted there was a gun in the car – tucked inside a Louis Vuitton bag on the passenger seat.

Officers found a loaded Glock model 19, 9mm self-loading pistol inside a smaller black bag within the LV bag. Dean was immediately arrested. She refused to talk but later said she was forced to carry the weapon under duress from a man she feared.

Phone Evidence Links Clancy to the Firearm

Police dug deeper by analysing Dean’s phone. It contained pics of a driving licence belonging to Bradley Clancy. The pair had been in contact multiple times on the day of the stop, including during the arrest. Clancy’s phone was even near the police stop location.

Officers tracked Clancy down on 17 October 2019. A DNA swab taken proved he had handled the Glock. With this damning evidence, Clancy was charged.

Detective Constable Andy Snazell said: “This stop led to a dangerous firearm being taken off London’s streets. These sentences show how seriously the police and courts take gun crime. Dean and Clancy will now spend many years in prison because of their actions.”
