On the morning of Monday 5 February 2024, Kent Police received reports that cars had been tampered with overnight in Essex Gardens, Kent Gardens and the nearby area.

Motor vehicles were also targeted in Dane Road and in King’s Road, Birchington.

Items inside the cars had been rummaged through and cash was reported to have been stolen, along with a vehicle log book, glasses and a controller for a garage.

High-value items that were allegedly taken include a set of work tools, worth around £600.

Two suspects are described both as young white men, one of whom was wearing a red hooded top, a black jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with fluorescent stripes and a grey panel on the back, and black and white trainers.

The second had ginger or blonde hair and was wearing a black puffer jacket, grey tracksuit, white socks and black shoes.

Community Safety Unit Inspector for Thanet District, Jim Woodward, said: ‘Thieves who steal from motor vehicles are opportunists and by taking simple precautions, owners are best-protected to safeguard their personal property.

‘While my officers are investigating these offences, I would urge motorists to remove all valuables from their vehicles overnight, ensuring all doors are locked and all windows are fully closed.

‘Never leave anything of value on display and wherever possible, park in a garage or a well-lit secure car park.

‘Also, if you have a portable satnav, remember to remove suction marks from your windscreen or dashboard.’

Officers are appealing for anyone with information, including doorbell footage or CCTV from the night in question, to come forward.
