Warrington Elderly Woman Scammed in Shocking Bank Card Heist

Police in Warrington are hunting two men after an elderly woman was targeted at a Halifax bank cashpoint on Buttermarket Street. The victim lost her cash card on Saturday, February 24, around 1:30pm, falling prey to a sneaky scam.

Conman’s Trick Leaves Victim £800 Out of Pocket

As the woman withdrew money, her cash card got stuck and was not returned. A suspicious man nearby told her the cash machine was broken and urged her to go inside the bank to sort it. Trusting him, she stepped inside – while the man grabbed her card from the machine. He then drained £800 from her account.

His accomplice fled the scene on foot towards Golden Square.

This incident links to a worrying spike in similar thefts reported across Greater Manchester, South Wales, and West Mercia. Police are investigating whether these crimes are connected and suspect a nationwide gang is on the loose.
