A man has  been given a life sentence for kidnap and sex offences after an incident in the Denton Holme area of Carlisle

James William, 34, of no fixed address, was at court for kidnap, kidnap a person with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, sexually assaulting a boy under 13 by touching and breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

William pleaded guilty at a hearing on 20 February 2024.

The court heard the incident occurred in August 2022 against a boy.

The investigating officer in this case was Detective Constable Chloe King, of Cumberland CID.

William must serve a minimum of four years eight months before being considered for release.

Following William’s sentencing, DC King said “William is a dangerous offender who is now behind bars.

“This was a terrifying incident for the victim and his family, and I hope today’s sentence brings them some closure.

“I would like to reassure our communities that incidents of this nature are extremely rare.”
