Four men have been jailed after a student was brutally “frogmarched” into an alley and robbed in a terrifying 40-minute ordeal in Nottingham city centre.

Student Held at Knifepoint in Shocking City Centre Robbery

In the early hours of Tuesday, 18 April 2023, a 19-year-old student was snatched by three masked thugs on Wellington Street.

They forced him into a gated alleyway, trapping him inside with no chance of escape. The attackers stole his iPhone and forced him to hand over passcodes before draining £1,539.63 from his bank account.

The gang then fled the scene, taking the stolen phone with them.

Police Closing In Thanks to CCTV and Quick Thinking

  • CCTV footage tracked the suspects to a Hockley eatery where one used the stolen bank card.
  • Oliver Sapounov, 23, of Huntingdon Street, Nottingham, was identified as a ringleader and linked to other company director roles alongside fellow crooks.
  • Co-accused Aqeel Hussain, 23, from Luton, and Sefa Duzgun, 22, were matched in the CCTV footage.
  • Adeel Din, 23, also from Luton, was arrested for laundering the stolen cash.

Prison Time for the Notorious Nottingham Gang

  • Oliver Sapounov was jailed for six years after being found guilty of kidnap, false imprisonment, robbery, and money laundering.
  • Aqeel Hussain and Sefa Duzgun pleaded guilty to the same charges. Both received five years and three months behind bars.
  • Adeel Din admitted money laundering charges and was sentenced to 18 months.

Police Slam Brutal Attack, Praise Teamwork

“This was a horrific crime that shook the student victim to his core. Our dedicated officers used CCTV, financial checks and warrants to bring these criminals to justice,” said a Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson.
